England Explore for World Cup Camps Amidst Worries of Missing Out On First-Choice Site to the Dutch.

The FA has dispatched operational staff to the America this week to inspect potential training camps for the forthcoming World Cup, amid increasing apprehensions that their first-choice site could be taken by the Holland.

Draw Complexities Disrupt Arrangements

Head coach Thomas Tuchel had previously approved an FA strategy for England to be based in Kansas following a pre-tournament training camp in Fort Lauderdale. However, after last week's tournament draw, there are now concerns that the Netherlands, who have their group games in Kansas, will be awarded priority on the desired facility at Sporting Kansas City—a high-performance centre operated by US Soccer.

FIFA allocates training camps according to geography and world rankings if there is a dispute, with the draw potentially pitting the FA in competition with the Netherlands and Argentina for bases in the tournament's central region.

Exploring Alternative Sites

Given England's group fixtures scheduled to take place in Dallas, Boston, and New Jersey, the FA is now reportedly exploring alternative locations on the US East Coast. The association started its scouting process for training camps at the start of the year, with Tuchel and director of football John McDermott touring possible locations during the Club World Cup last summer.

Despite this advanced preparation, there was always an acceptance that the final tournament draw could drastically change their logistical arrangements.

Knockout Stage Logistics Strategy

The Three Lions face the eighth most arduous group stage schedule in terms of travel distance. Topping Group L would set England on track for a last-32 game in Atlanta, then a possible last-16 match in Mexico City.

  • Significant Departure: The FA may decide to travel from match to match for the later rounds should England qualify, a significant departure from its standard practice of maintaining a fixed tournament base.
  • FIFA Encouragement: FIFA is believed to be actively encouraging such a itinerant strategy for the expansive 2026 tournament.

Once the training base is finalized, the FA will turn its attention to arranging two pre-tournament matches in Florida at the beginning of June.
